We drove up to Waipu Caves (roughly 2 hours north of Auckland) in the weekend to compete in the first round of the North Island Cross Country Champs which was being put on by the Northland MCC.

We were greeted with perfect weather and the track was near perfect as well. The Northland Club had a done a great job with a good mix of single track tree sections, forest tracks & natural farmland, it had me thinking it was one of the best NZ cross country tracks I had ridden.

As for my efforts well that was a different story, I won't dwell on the issue of what was the problem but basically I didn't/couldn't ride to my potential and I finished the day up with a 14th place finish.

Which is obviously less than ideal for me and with the Nationals looming this is something I need to get sorted, & fast!
